There were large drops across the board, and we have compiled some of the fast swims you might’ve missed from night 1.
In the girls’ 1000 freestyle, 16-year-old Lila Sherman, a Duke commit from The Fish Swim Club in Virginia, finished 12th in 9:58.18. She was originally seeded with an 800 LCM time of 9:03.73, but her previous lifetime best in the event nearly 10 seconds slower at 10:08.13 from December of 2023.
There were a few major drops in the men’s 1000 as well. Jackson Irwin, 17, from the Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team finished 6th in 9:02.84. This was more than 12 seconds faster than his previous lifetime best 9:15.04 from March.
NOVA of Virginia 15-year-old Owen Miklos finished 11th in 9:11.60, which was more than 15 seconds faster than the 9:27.20 mark he set last December.
The rest of the swims on night 1 were relay splits. Outside of the ones mentioned in the live recaps, there were a few swimmers who boosted their teams with strong splits, even if they don’t count as real times.
In the girls’ 200 medley relay, Molly Sweeney split 27.31 on the breaststroke leg for Carmel, who finished 5th. They also had Ellie Clark split 23.87 on the fly leg.
Kayda Geyer from Mecklenburg Swim Club was 27.94 on the same leg to help Mecklenburg’s ‘B’ relay to a 12th place finish, and Bryce Winzenread from Excel Aquatics split the same 27.94 on their 14th place relay.
Lakeside’s KC Braeger was 23.65 on the fly leg to be a crucial part of their 6th place finish.
On the freestyle, Bolles School 17-year-old Leah Chin came in at 22.16, the 2nd fastest split in the field, to help them finish 8th overall.
The boys’ 200 medley relay saw Swim Atlanta’s Colin Holgers split a massive 21.02 on the SwimAtlanta relay that finished 6th overall in 1:27.93. On the same leg, Spire Swim Club’s Erkhes Enkhtur was 21.41 on their 8th place relay.
The butterfly legs saw Mecklenburg Swim’s Mike Rice swim a massive 20.62 on their 13th place relay. New Wave Swim Team’s Mattaus Rammel split 20.97. Badger Swim Club 18-year-old Aiden Moy split 21.07 and Baylor Swim Club’s Hayden Vicknair was 21.08.
