There’s still a very long way to go and all that, blah blah blah; we don’t know what the performance will be like, blah blah blah; but I’d like to enjoy a happy moment today.

Brown, who has been out since June with his neck stress reaction, apparently keeps on checking boxes on his recovery and rehab. He’s been out in Arizona throwing, but hadn’t yet really been off the mound for a true bullpen session. The fact that he’s come to Chicago to do it means there is probably some close evaluation going on, and I take that as a very good sign.
Now, again, this would just be a step in the process to a return, which would typically be followed by live batting practice, then a rehab assignment. All of that comes in stages, and could take several weeks. We can’t get too far ahead of ourselves here, particularly when it comes to the decision about whether Ben Brown will be able to make starts when he comes back, or if he’ll be limited to relief. Frankly, I’d gladly take either one, as long as Brown was healthy and effective.
