Virginia high school state finalist Troy Salpeter has announced his verbal commitment to swim for La Salle University in Philadelphia beginning in the fall of 2027.
“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at La Salle University! I can’t thank my parents and extended family enough for everything they’ve done to get me here, and I’m incredibly grateful for all the coaches and teammates who have helped me along the way, especially my current coach, Steve. A huge thank you to Coach Kerry for giving me the opportunity to be part of such a great program. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me in Philly. Go Explorers!”
A senior at Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, VA, Salpeter has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming and diving team all four years. He currently trains year-round with Tide Swimming, where he primarily specializes in free, breast and IM.
Salpeter posted a series of strong performances at the 2025 TAC Titans Blizzard Blitz in December, logging personal best times in two events. He placed 10th in the 500 free (4:39.05 – PB), 12th in the 1000 free (9:40.26 – PB), 15th in the 100 breast (58.90), 26th in the 200 breast (2:15.10), 28th in the 100 free (48.45), 29th in the 200 IM (1:59.02) and 36th in the 400 IM (4:17.81).
At the 2026 Virginia Senior Championship in March, Salpeter turned in another handful of lifetime best performances. He set a personal best time in the 1650 free (16:22.10), placing 19th overall, and in the 200 free (1:44.37) as the leadoff on the 800 free relay. He also contested the 500 free (4:49.42), 50 breast (27.94), 100 breast (59.36), 200 IM (2:01.09) and 400 IM (4:19.99).
Salpeter has competed at the VHSL Class 5 State Championships each season since his freshman year, with his top performances coming at the 2025 competition. He placed 5th in the 200 IM (1:54.79) and clocked a time of 58.28 during the prelims of the 100 breast. He also set a best time of 25.36 in the 50 back as the leadoff on the medley relay.

To earn a second swim at the 2026 Atlantic 10 Championships, it took times of 4:35.69 in the 500 free, 1:50.77/4:04.50 in the 200/400 IM and 56.19/2:03.80 in the 100/200 breast, putting him outside the cutoff in each of his top events.
On the team itself, Salpeter would have ranked 2nd in the 1000 free, 1650 free and 400 IM, 3rd in the 500 free and 5th in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM last season. With almost a full season to go before he joins the team, it remains to be seen exactly how the roster will shakeout, but Salpeter looks to be in a strong position to be a top contributor for La Salle.
Currently set to join Salpeter in the pool next fall are Bradley Woolpert, Aaron Euker, Emery Hess and Brady Turner, who should make for strong training partners over their four years together.
