Home Opener Coming, RFAs, Roobroeck’s Hot Start, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Yes, the Blackhawks’ season-opening road trip went about as poorly as possible. Yeah, they were more competitive in Buffalo — even without their No. 1 defenseman available. But they lost all three games, looked a hot mess defensively and generated almost no offense in the first two games of the trip.

Now, the Hawks come home for a practice late Monday morning before hosting the St. Louis Blues to start the home schedule. It will be more than just another Blackhawks home opener on Tuesday night. It will be the return of Patrick Kane to the ice in the correct jersey.

I was at his first game back — in a Detroit Red Wings sweater — and it was one of the more incredible hockey games I have ever attended. From the ceremony celebrating Chris Chelios before the game to Kane ending it in overtime and receiving a huge ovation, the entire night was surreal.

This won’t be surreal. Tuesday night should be a celebration of the return of one of the greatest to every do it for the Blackhawks. And I can’t wait.

I saw some tweets on Sunday on the matter, so I’ll confirm here that the Blackhawks will not have a red carpet opportunity before the home opener tomorrow. Because of the construction surrounding the United Center and traffic issues that causes, they decided to not have one this year. However, the team did share that there will be some alumni in the building and the pregame ceremony should be electric. Good reporting here from Ben Pope, who writes Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson has “had some soft conversations the last little while” with 2027 RFAs Ryan Greene, Artyom Levshunov, Sam Rinzel and Wyatt Kaiser.

The NHL salary boom is prompting GMs to make long commitments to unproven players like never before. That includes the Blackhawks, who — in addition to signing Oliver Moore — have had "soft conversations" with some of other their 2027 RFAs.New story: t.co/PQo8k20gfq

— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) October 4, 2026 A good read here from Mark Lazerus on Kevin Korchinski, who signed a two-year deal this summer, hopefully getting a longer look at some point. He did not get much of one in his season debut in Buffalo, skating under 12 minutes.

There's no chance Kevin Korchinski gets put on waivers, yet he's still living in the team hotel, awaiting his housing letter. After a strong close to last season, Korchinski's trying to prove he belongs in the NHL. But will he get a fair shot?My story: t.co/5FkcaTgA4G

— Mark Lazerus (@MarkLazerus) October 4, 2026 I mentioned the early struggles of Nick Lardis when I wrote about the first two losses for the Blackhawks. He didn’t do much better in the third contest of the season. Scott Powers noted as much after the game. Finally, this power play goal in the second period of Guelph’s 6-0 win on Sunday gave Blackhawks prospect Ryan Roobroeck a goal in four straight games. Roobroeck added an assist in the third period for a two-point afternoon.
