HOPEWELL, N.Y. — A 19-year-old from Rochester is facing charges following a stalking investigation at Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC).
Ontario County sheriff’s deputies say Shawn Whitaker sent hundreds of messages to the victim, some of which were threatening, between the period of July through November.
Deputies say Whitaker continued to send messages even after being expelled from the college, and posed as a college staff member over email to try to lure the victim to the college to meet with him.
Whitaker was arrested and charged with stalking, aggravated harassment, criminal impersonation, and tampering with physical evidence on Tuesday.
He was brought to the Ontario County Jail for pre-arraignment detention, and is expected to return to Hopewell Town Court at a later date.
