Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp‘s famous father, singer John Mellencamp, helped her with her dynamic with her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave.
During an appearance on The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show, Teddi noted that she and Arroyave, who share three children, separated in late 2024 after 13 years of marriage. According to Teddi, she and Arroyave “were fighting bad” until she was diagnosed with brain tumors in February 2025, causing her to undergo emergency surgery.
According to Teddi, who has Stage IV metastatic melanoma, her father encouraged Arroyave to ignore their relationship issues following her surgery and subsequent hospital stay.
“My dad was very smart to have this conversation with Edwin. He just said, ‘Edwin, whatever you guys thought about beforehand really doesn’t make a difference. What you need is her to survive. And just be there for her until she’s in remission.’ And his attitude completely changed,” said Teddi during the October 2026 interview.
She also shared that she and Arroyave now have a friendly dynamic. In addition, she said her estranged husband will sometimes help better her mood on days she’s struggling.
“I even will call him sometimes when I’m upset and be like, ‘Help me get out of this funk,'” said Teddi.
Teddi then explained that she’s able to be friendly with Arroyave because they are “not in love with each other.”
“I think he’s in love with his girlfriend and I’ve moved on, and I like dating,” said the Two Ts in Pod podcast host.
During The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show interview, Teddi also explained why she and Arroyave have not finalized their divorce, despite their relationship being “so over.” She explained that her brain tumors were discovered amid her and Arroyave’s divorce.
“I realized I was having a brain tumor as we were in the middle of divorce. And the doctors are like, ‘She’s not really in the capacity to do this right now.’ If you’re not fully with it, like how can you be expected to make lifelong decisions?” said the 45-year-old Bravo alum.
