For many families in Southeast San Diego, Thanksgiving can be a challenge. Saturday Community Wraparound is helping to ease the holiday with a free turkey giveaway and resource fair.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center, 404 Euclid Ave., 1,000 turkeys will be handed out to local households, giving families extra support as they prepare for the holiday.
Turkeys will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with one per household. Registration opens at 9 a.m., and attendees must be 18 or older. Mayor Todd Gloria is scheduled to give remarks at 10:30 a.m.
The event offers more than just turkey. Families can enjoy a live DJ set from DJ Monterrosa, view classic lowrider cars, and let children play in a jump house or arcade truck. Local nonprofit organizations will also be on hand to provide information and resources for residents.
Participating organizations include the city of San Diego, Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, the Diamond BID, San Diego Police Department, County of San Diego SD Nights, Circulate San Diego, Open Heart Leaders, Remnant Church, San Ysidro Health, learn4life High Schools, Platicando Con Mi Gente, Peacemaker Project, Elev8 Online Schools, SDPI Security, Union of Pan Asian Communities, University of San Diego’s Kroc School, Blue Shield of California, Solida Car Club, CORE, and the San Diego Police Foundation.
If you go, organizers encourage families to arrive early, as supplies are limited.
