Country Star Tim McGraw Opens Up About Filming Taylor Sheridan’s ‘1883’: ‘I Probably Wouldn’t Have Survived’ ...Saudi Arabia

Tim McGraw is opening up about just how hard it was to film “1883.”

The country superstar, who starred in Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” prequel alongside his wife, Faith Hill, told Esquire that the punishing production schedule pushed him to his limit.

“If it had gone on any longer, I probably wouldn’t have survived, put it that way,” McGraw said.

McGraw explained that the shoot lasted around five to six months, with filming typically running six days a week and about 14 hours a day.

On top of that, he still had concerts to perform. McGraw recalled finishing on set around 6 p.m., jumping on a plane to play a show, getting home around 1 a.m., then heading to the gym at 3 a.m. before sitting in the makeup chair by 5:30 or 6 a.m. to start all over again.

He told Hill it was probably the hardest job the couple had ever had, saying that included some tough jobs he worked growing up.

The physical challenges started before cameras even rolled. The cast went through a rigorous cowboy camp, learning to ride horses, rope, work cattle and shoot guns. Co-star Eric Nelsen previously told Fox News Digital that the camp gave the cast time to get comfortable on horseback and learn the skills they would need on the show.

Conditions on set were often brutal. McGraw and Hill have recalled filming a dangerous river crossing around 3 a.m. on their 25th wedding anniversary, with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s.

McGraw said the elements were constantly working against the production, which also involved animals, extras and horses. As someone who grew up riding horses, he said that part was fun for him.

Despite the exhausting experience, McGraw said it was worth it, largely because he got to work alongside Hill and with Sheridan, whom he called a brilliant writer.

He added that the shoot taught him the value of preparation, explaining that the more ready he was, the less nervous he felt on set.
