Popik, 59, announced the move on his Facebook account, where he’s been posting photos of his family and friends who have visited him during his hospital stay.
The visits have helped Popik cope with his plight, he said over Facebook messenger. “Music also has been therapeutic,” he wrote, noting that he was listening to the song “No Easy Street” by the Psychedelic Furs as he typed that message.
In 2010, he landed a similar role as gameday DJ for the Baltimore Ravens, playing music during the team’s home games at M&T Bank Stadium until he was hospitalized on Oct. 21. His last game for the Ravens was on Monday night, Sept. 22, against the Detroit Lions. He’s also DJed games for Navy football since 2011.
Full disclosure, I’m Facebook friends with Popik. We met through the Rockin’ the Suburbs podcast, but we haven’t met in person.
