India begin New Zealand ODI series with five-wicket win at Eden Park
India started their five-match ODI series against New Zealand with a stunning five-wicket victory in a rain-affected first match at Eden Park on Wednesday. Kohli smashed a stunning knock of 74 runs off just 51 balls while chasing a revised target of 143 under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
The chase was not that easy for India, as the pitch offered extra bounce and the rain breaks made things more challenging. Rohit Sharma failed to make an impact and was dismissed for a six-ball duck by Kyle Jamieson after playing an ambitious shot straight to mid-off. Amid this, Mitchell Santner slams New Zealand’s batting after 1st ODI loss to India.

After the second rain break, the ball started coming onto the bat with more pace, but Kohli adjusted quickly. Kohli was looking in excellent touch. He punished Jamieson with a pull shot over mid-wicket and also handled Blair Tickner's short deliveries with great confidence.
However, the dashing right-hander’s brilliant innings finally came to an end when he mistimed a pull shot and was caught by Tim Seifert at deep backward square leg. He walked back after scoring 74 off 51 balls, receiving a huge response from the crowd. The match could also be Kohli's final appearance in an India shirt at Eden Park.
