It’s been a good couple of years for longtime fans of The Cure.

First, in 2024, the band released their first album in 16 years, Songs of a Lost World. Then, this past summer, they went on a massive tour of the U.K. and Europe. Now, Robert Smith is hinting at the possibility of both new music and another major tour in 2027.

On Nov. 3, Nick Grimshaw of the BBC’s Radio 6 Music’s the Breakfast Show included The Cure on his list of “6 Music Artists of the Year for 2026.” Speaking to the host, Smith said he was “very excited that we made the 6 Music Artists of the Year shortlist, I am adding it to my personal musical highlights list of 2026 so far.”

Smith went on to list other significant accomplishments from the past year, including “curating the week of Teenage Cancer Trust shows at the Royal Albert Hall in March, The Cure’s first show of the summer, Primavera Barcelona, of course, at the start of June, my duet with Olivia Rodrigo for the live world premiere of her fabulous song ‘What’s Wrong With Me’.”

After mentioning “The Cure’s last show of the summer at the Rock En Seine festival in Paris at the end of August, and pretty much, every one of the 29 Cure shows that happened in between,” Smith said that he’s “looking forward to more Cure concerts in 2027.”

“Of course, I’m not allowed to say when and where yet, but I’m confident they’ll be bursting with new songs,” he added.

Back in June, Smith told the same station that The Cure recorded “three albums’ worth of songs” during their last stint in the studio, “so the second one is done, so that’s about to be delivered to Universal.”

“The third one is weird, actually, now I’ve been doing this, people think, ‘Ah, it’s because he’s been working with Olivia [Rodrigo],’ because the third one is actually really upbeat,” he continued. “It’s really poppy, but it doesn’t compare melodically to the stuff that Olivia does, but it’s my idea of Cure Pop. It’s probably 20 BPM slower than anything she does, but [compared to] what we’ve done in last couple of years, it’s really rocking. It’s banging.”
