President Donald Trump took aim at Fox News’ polling operation Tuesday night, calling its surveys a “hit job” as the network aired election-night results showing widespread dissatisfaction with his job performance.
“The FoxNews Poll, always the worst, is so insulting with the questions they ask,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post as polls were closing across the country. “Every question is a hit job, and every answer is ‘BULLS—!’ This has been going on for years.”
The president’s comments came as Fox News was displaying findings from its national voter poll, which showed just 38% of voters approving of Trump’s job performance, compared with 62% who disapproved, according to the network’s election-night coverage.
The survey also found that 63% of voters said Trump’s tariffs had hurt the economy in their area, while 54% said his administration’s policies had made health care costs worse. Additionally, 87% expressed concern about gas and diesel prices.
Fox News anchor Sandra Smith explained during the broadcast that the survey was developed collaboratively by Fox News, other major television networks, and The Associated Press.
Trump wasn’t finished with his criticism of the network. In a follow-up post, he claimed Fox News’ ratings were down 27% because it was spending too much time covering Democrats.
“FoxNews Ratings are way down (27%!) because they’re spending too much time covering the Trump Deranged Dumocrats!” he wrote, adding that viewers who had stopped watching the network understood the reason. “It’s them, not me — My numbers are better than they have ever been.”
Trump also accused Fox Corp. of donating money to Democratic candidates and political organizations, listing House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Reps. Jamie Raskin, Ted Lieu and Pete Aguilar, among others.
“No wonder FoxNews Ratings are collapsing, and they’re going to go down a lot further,” Trump wrote. “They’re way down, not because of me, but because they are AGAINST me!”
Trump did not provide evidence for his claims about the network’s ratings or the political donations in the post.
Trump’s criticism of the network came after he had already taken aim at one of its on-air personalities earlier Tuesday.
In a Truth Social post, the president complained about The Five co-host Jessica Tarlov, writing that he couldn’t stand her voice and calling her “DUMB AS A ROCK.”
“Have to go somewhere else until that LOSER is off the air — I’ll be back later!” he added.
