Players of the week

Braelyn Bailey, Roosevelt girls volleyball

Bailey, a senior, was rock solid in the Rough Riders’ nonleague home sweep against Fort Collins on Thursday. She had a team-high 25 kills on a .333 hitting percentage to go with two aces and 12 digs. It was the fourth consecutive win for Roosevelt, which improved to 14-5 overall.

Adrian Czyszczon, Windsor football

Czyszczon, a senior running back, was a frequent visitor into the end zone in the Wizards’ 48-0 road win against Northridge on Friday. He recorded 96 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries on the ground. He also caught a 34-yard touchdown pass, as Windsor ran its record to 7-0 overall, 2-0 in Class 3A North 2 play.

Daniel Gonzalez, Weld Central boys soccer

Gonzalez was a consistent force in Weld Central’s 4-1 wins against Frontier Academy and Windsor Charter this past week. Against Frontier, he had two goals and an assist. Against Windsor Charter, he racked up three goals, as the Rebels improved to 10-2 overall, 5-0 in 3A/2A Patriot League play.

Travis Griffin, Severance boys soccer

A hat trick wasn’t enough for Griffin, a senior, in the Silver Knights’ 6-0 road win against Thompson Valley on Thursday. He had four goals and one assist.

Michael Kelly, University football

Kelly, a senior, piled up the yards on the ground in the Bulldogs’ 28-6 road win against Valley. He carried the ball 16 times for 164 yards and a touchdown, and University improved to 4-3 overall, 1-2 in 2A North League play.

Roz Muguerza, Roosevelt softball

Muguerza, a senior, was highly effective in the Rough Riders’ 15-5 win against Rifle in regional play Friday. She hit 4 for 5 with three RBI, a home run and two runs. Roosevelt sits at 17-9 heading into the 4A state tournament.

Britton Walston, Resurrection Christian football

Walston, a senior running back, came up huge in the Cougars’ big 38-6 road win against Berthoud on Friday. He carried the ball 18 times for 170 yards and four touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 36 yards and another touchdown, as Resurrection Christian improved to 5-2 overall, 3-0 in 2A North League play.

Addison White, Windsor softball

White, a junior, was red hot at the plate in the Wizards’ 14-4 win against Green Mountain and their 12-1 win against Golden during regionals Saturday. She hit 3 for 3 with three doubles, five RBI and two runs against Green Mountain. Then, she hit 1 for 3 with three RBI and a double against Golden, as Windsor improved to 23-2 and punched its ticket to the 4A state tournament.

Game of the Week

Valley went the distance to secure a 3-2 league win at home against Weld Central on Thursday. Senior Camila Villanuevac led the way with 24 kills and 20 digs, as the Vikings snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 6-10 overall, 3-6 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play.

By the numbers

At 12-0-1 overall, 5-0, in 4A/3A Longs Peak League play, Greeley Central is the only 4A boys soccer team in the state that is undefeated. The Wildcats are ranked fourth in CHSAANow.com’s Selection and Seeding Index, which will be used to determine playoff seeding when the postseason begins next week.
