(KRON) -- Authorities have suspended the search for a Santa Rosa woman who went missing last week, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday. Search operations have concentrated in the area of Bodega Head on the Sonoma County coast, where 47-year-old Sunshine Borjas may have been hiking alone.
The sheriff’s office said its Search and Rescue Team “spent countless hours” looking for Borjas at the popular hiking spot over the weekend. Searchers on the ground were assisted by planes, boats, a helicopter, canines and drones, according to authorities.
“Search efforts were suspended Sunday as teams await new leads on where to continue looking,” the sheriff’s office said in an update.
Missing person Sunshine Borjas (Photo: Santa Rosa Police Department)Borjas was reported missing to the Santa Rosa Police Department on the night of Oct. 1. According to authorities, Borjas left her Santa Rosa home that day around 1:30 p.m. and drove to Bodega Head to go hiking.
Her vehicle was found in the parking lot of Bodega Head early the following morning.
Borjas is described as being 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 155 pounds. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. Police said she was last seen wearing a gray shirt, gray leggings and black sneakers.
On Monday, the sheriff’s office said the investigation would be turned back over to Santa Rosa police.
