Johnny Depp is delighting fans with his triumphant return to mainstream pop culture, albeit in his own characteristically eccentric way.
To further hype up the release of his upcoming holiday movie Ebenezer, for example, Depp donned his character’s Victorian garb to topple a number of Christmas decorations in New York City’s Bryant Park Winter Village, as revealed in multiple videos showcasing Depp’s antics.
In one video, Depp’s character pushes over an entire Christmas tree, loudly claiming, “That was not my fault!” when witnesses yelled for him to calm down.
When a worker attempted to interject and ask Depp’s Ebenezer to please clean up his mess, the Pirates of the Caribbean star brandished his cane at the worker, prompting a confrontation between the two.
“We’re going to have to ask you to leave,” the worker said.
“I’d like to ask you to leave,” Depp responded. “No, I’d like you to ask me to leave.”
“Please … ,” the worker started, before Depp cut him off.
“I’d like to leave!” the actor declared.
Depp’s hilarious raid on Bryant Park comes only a few short weeks away from the release of Ebenezer, the actor’s first major movie since the late 2010s. In the interim, the actor faced a fair amount of public scrutiny for his highly publicized court case with ex Amber Heard, which led to his dismissal from the Fantastic Beasts franchise as well as Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean.
With the trial long since over, Depp has been eyeing a return to Hollywood for some years, leading to his involvement in Paramount’s Ebenezer. A Gothic take on Charles Dickens’ classic holiday story A Christmas Carol, the project sees Depp portraying the famous curmudgeon Ebenezer Scrooge as he’s visited by three spirits on Christmas Eve.
The film co-stars Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Tramell Tillman and Ian McKellen.
