NFL franchise finally breaks ground on ‘world-class’ $2.4bn stadium but fans spot fatal flaw ...Middle East

Construction has officially begun on the Cleveland Browns’ future home stadium.

The long-suffering franchise is targeting 2029 to unveil its projected $2.4 billion ‘Super Theater’.

With many new stadiums adopting similar futuristic, cookie-cutter designs, the Browns are looking to stand out by taking a different approach to the design of their new multibillion-dollar home.

While much of the NFL stadium talk these days focuses on the playing surface, Cleveland hasn’t disclosed their choice yet—but they’re proudly puffing out their chest in a newly released statement.

“This visionary project will set a new standard in stadium innovation and fan engagement, bringing fans closer than ever to action on the field while attracting year-round events beyond football,” the Browns said.

“The stadium will serve as the centerpiece of Northeast Ohio‘s largest economic development initiative to date. Designed and built with the fan and community in mind, the stadium will feature the world-class venue alongside a vibrant mixed-use entertainment district led by award-winning development partner and real estate firm Lincoln Property Company that will spur long-term economic growth and celebrate the region’s spirit and identity.

“The transformative project will secure the Browns’ future in Northeast Ohio for generations to come. The revolutionary 67,500-seat “Super Theater” venue designed by leading sports architecture firm HKS will be capable of hosting a wide array of premier large-scale events year-round, well beyond Browns games, including NCAA Final Fours, international soccer matches, and concerts for crowds of up to 75,000.

“The new Huntington Bank Field is inspired by Lake Erie and the City of Cleveland, showcasing an immersive experience for visitors.”

It’s a dazzling statement—and it sets high expectations—for what’s to come at the new Huntington Bank Field. However, Browns fans aren’t too convinced, pointing out one fatal flaw.

The team stinks and has for a while, leaving fans skeptical that the new stadium will help. One could say it’s like putting lipstick on a pig.

“When does construction start on building a winning football team? Been under construction for 13 years under Jimmy and have one playoff win and countless embarrassing mistakes made by him and all the Ivy League nerds,” one frustrated fan wrote on X.

“Great, quite beautiful actually, one problem: does the new stadium and facilities come with the current ownership and head coach? They have a propensity for mediocrity, so why not upgrade them also?” another fan sarcastically questioned.

“It sure is a lot of money to spend on a team who can’t seem to win any football games,” one more added.

The highlights of the new stadium will include the closest seats in the league thanks to a “revolutionary bowl design,” a translucent roof, flexible capacity, a first-of-its-kind roofing system, and its role as an economic catalyst.

How old is Cleveland’s current stadium?

The Browns’ current home, Huntington Bank Field, has been a fixture on the Lake Erie shoreline for 26 years, opening in 1999. The stadium was built on the historic grounds of the original Cleveland Municipal Stadium, which had been demolished in 1996.

Over the years, the stadium has undergone several renovations—most notably in 2014 and 2015—that brought larger video boards, a revamped sound system, and modernized fan amenities. Yet, even with those upgrades, it lacks many of the cutting-edge features found in newer NFL venues.

With their new home scheduled to open in 2029, the current stadium is heading into its final chapter — one that most members of the Dawg Pound will be happy to forget.

Since moving into their home on Lake Erie in 1999, the Browns have had just four winning seasons, no division titles, one playoff win, and have never hosted a home playoff game.

2029 can’t come soon enough for the Dawg Pound and hopefully, by then, the Browns’ long-running flaw of simply being a bad team will finally be history.
