Bella Teply, a two-time Ohio High School State Champion, has sent her verbal commitment to Northwestern University for the fall of 2026
I am beyond excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Northwestern University. I would like to thank my family and friends for all of their endless support. Along with my team and coaches at Mason and the Mason Manta Rays for helping me through this journey. I would also like to thank the entire NU coaching staff and team for giving me this amazing opportunity! GO ‘CATS
Teply is a senior at Mason High School and swims club for the Mason Manta Rays in Ohio. At last year’s OHSAA Division I State Championships, she won the 100 and 200 freestyle events for the Mason team.
In the 100 free finals, she swam 50.80, which was a little more than a three-tenth add from the 50.45 she swam in the prelims. Her lifetime best in the event is 49.74 which she swam the week before the State Championships.
In the 200 free, she was 1:48.75 in the final, coming in nearly a second ahead of the rest of the field. This was a slight add from her personal best at the time which was 1:47.82 from the weekend before. She has since lowered that time as well to swim 1:47.25 at the 2025 East Winter Junior Championships.
She also was a member of two of Mason’s relays, anchoring the 200 free relay in 23.14 to a 3rd place finish, about half a second off the 22.66 she swam in prelims, and anchoring the 400 free relay to another 3rd place finish in 49.83.
At the 2025 East Winter Juniors Championships, she qualified for finals in the 200 free, finishing 11th in 1:47.25, and in the 500 free, finishing 18th in 4:48.14.
For the first three years of her high school career, Teply swam while she ran cross country, earning First Team All-Conference honors in cross-country all three years she competed.
Teply’s Best Times SCY
100 free — 49.74 200 free — 1:47.25 500 free — 4:48.14 200 IM — 2:02.73The Northwestern women compete in the Big Ten Conference, where last year they finished 9th at the Big Ten Championships, scoring 409 points to come in just over 100 points behind Purdue’s 529. They came in more than 50 points ahead of Nebraska, who scored 344.
Teply will be an automatic impact swimmer for the Wildcats. Her 100 freestyle would currently rank 5th on the Northwestern team with all four of the swimmers ahead of her being seniors this year.
Her 200 free time would be 4th right now, her 500 free time would be tied for 2nd, and her 200 IM time would be 3rd meaning she will likely walk onto relays as a freshman.
She sits just outside of scoring position in the 100 free (49.60), 200 free (1:47.11), and the 500 free (4:46.00) at the Big Ten Championships, but with another year of training, she could easily end up a finalist in all three of her individual events.
Teply will join Iris Kim, Ava Ferguson, Flawia Kazmol, Sophia Oka-fedder, and Xintong Wang on campus in the fall.
