LA JOLLA – La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla’s iconic “Pink Lady,” just unveiled its new companion spa in an adjoining building, which is a complement to the historic boutique hotel ahead of its 2026 centennial celebration.
Not surprisingly, this latest addition to one of La Jolla’s most storied structures is also colored pink.
The new Spa at La Valencia Hotel, which opened at 1135 Coast Blvd. at the beginning of August, adjoins LaVa at 1132 Prospect St. Being referred to as a “wellness oasis,” the new spa’s arrival marks the first major new addition to the 115-room seaside property in over a decade.
The only resort spa in La Jolla Village, the Spa at La Valencia Hotel is nestled within what was once a private residence, built at the turn of the century and, adjacent to the main hotel property.
“We wanted this to be an escape for hotel and community guests,” noted veteran spa director Lisa Price, whose programs at Inn at Rancho Santa Fe and Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa have earned national acclaim. She has curated a spa menu that combines restorative therapies with transformative treatments, harnessing advanced technologies and high-performance skincare products.
“They can come and escape for an hour, or a full day, but they’ll have that moment to themselves when they can just rest and relax,” she said.
Price added that the spa has six treatment rooms and two locker rooms with showers and other amenities, as well as a relaxation lounge and an outdoor deck. Hotel guests can charge spa services to their room.
La Valencia Hotel general manager Troy Longwith said the genesis of the spa project dates to 2013, when the current ownership group bought the hotel, before acquiring the building next door that houses the spa.
In 2024, when he first arrived, Longwith said one of his main directives was “to get the spa to the finish line, and here we are 18 months later. We’ve got a beautiful new spa and decided to share it with not only our hotel guests, but the community as well. It’s a freestanding business.”
Added Longwith: “It ties in because the building the spa is in is also historic and boutiquey. It’s an amenity our guests have asked for.”
“There’s something inherently healing about La Jolla, the rhythm of the waves, the coastal light, the sense of timelessness,” said Price. “We’ve channeled that essence into every detail of the Spa at La Valencia. Our intention is for each guest to feel a true sense of place and presence — to be cared for in a way that’s both luxurious and deeply personal.”
Every aspect of the spa experience is customized, including an aroma journey that is carried throughout the visit. Hotel guests can choose from a selection of facials, massages, body treatments and personalized wellness rituals, including breathwork, sound healing, reiki and tai chi.
Vintage California coastal design elements in the spa include white oak floors, a marine-inspired color palette, natural stone accents, handcrafted patterned tiles and historically-appropriate millwork. All elements are complemented by views of the ocean and La Jolla Cove. Artwork by La Jolla-based artist Krista Schumacher further enhances the spaces.
“Guests will feel very nourished, very restored,” Price said.
