The '80s singer recently sat down with Stereogum's Rachel Brown for the publication's "We've Got A File On You" series on Thursday to reflect on various moments throughout his 50-year career, including establishing his label Luaka Bop, his song "Angels" appearing in an 1994 episode of Beavis And Butt-Head, scoring a #1 dance hit with X-Press 2, writing "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)" and his brand new album Who Is The Sky?, out Sept. 5.
"When she reached out, I was like, 'Ok, are we gonna do some choreography or some movement? Do we have time?'" the singer recalled. "We had time to rehearse and figure stuff out. It was fun.”
"Yeah, maybe not every single song, but I knew quite a few of them," Byrne replied.
"Maybe, 'Obsessed with your ex,'" he said, quoting the chorus. "It’s kind of real, but also very funny."
"She’s a great performer, and she was having a really good time, you could tell," Byrne said. "I got introduced to her afterwards, and she seemed like a real person — someone who, growing up in the world that she did, survived it really well."
Next week, the singer will release his ninth solo studio album, Who Is The Sky?, his first since 2018’s American Utopia. The album is set to drop on September 5.
