Josh Giddey’s camp better hope the Chicago Bulls read HoopsHype!
The popular basketball site recently released its Top 26 point guards for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Voted on by HoopsHype team members, the rankings are projection-based. In other words, the list is attempting to predict how these guards will fare over the course of the next season.
While Josh Giddey may not have cracked the Top 10, the guard undoubtedly garnered respect among voters. The 22-year-old checked in at No. 15 on HoopsHype’s list, which sandwiches him between reigning Sixth Man of the Year Payton Pritchard (No. 16) and Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball (No. 14). The ranking also places Giddey ahead of notable veterans like Fred VanVleet (No. 17) and Kyrie Irving (No. 19).
Not too bad!

Typically, it is pretty easy to pick a bone with these types of rankings. And, spoiler alert, those creating the rankings are typically well aware of what that can do for engagement! But I actually find HoopsHype’s list to be rather reasonable.
I was pleasantly surprised with how much respect they gave Giddey. A case could be made that more proven winners like VanVleet, Irving, or Jrue Holiday (21) deserve to be ahead of the still-developing player. However, if we consider the wide-open runway that rests in front of Giddey in Chicago, it’s not hard to imagine a very impactful year from the jumbo guard.
HoopsHype also described him as “one of the most unique floor generals in the NBA,” which fits the bill. Not only is Giddey a visionary facilitator with a rare command of the game, but he is among the league’s top rebounders at the position. We also saw real growth from him as a scoring threat as the 2024-25 campaign dragged on.
He coupled a career year from behind the arc (37.8 percent) with an improved ability to get downhill. To be sure, Giddey still has a long way to go before we can coin him an efficient finisher, but progress was made. He settled for far fewer floaters during his post-All-Star break run, using his six-foot-eight frame to fight his way to the rim. This is a big reason why he averaged 21.2 points on 50.0 percent shooting from the field over his final 19 games of the regular season. He also shot nearly 5.0 free throw attempts per game after shooting roughly 2.0 attempts a night before the All-Star break.
Of course, there are fair questions about whether or not Giddey can continue on this path next season. Pre-playoff production in March and April has been deceiving in the past, and this is likely part of the reason why the Bulls have remained cautious in their free agent negotiations with the guard. This was also likely a factor in the HoopsHype rankings. While they are clearly assuming some growth from Giddey, one has to imagine he would be even higher if they expected the same player we saw end last season.
If Giddey does come out of the gate in a similar fashion, however, he could start to move up the totem pole. After LaMelo Ball, HoopsHype went with Jamal Murray (13), Darius Garland (12), and Boston’s Derrick White (11). Surpassing any one of those key contributors will not be easy, but Giddey is versatile enough to make it happen, especially if he can find a more consistent niche as a scorer.
Regardless, his ranking helps demonstrate how Josh Giddey’s representatives view him. HoopsHype has him inching close to an All-Star-caliber tier of point guards, and they also put him well ahead of two players who have presumably come up as examples in his contract talks. Jalen Suggs, who has the $30.0 million AAV that Giddey reportedly covets, sits at No. 18. As for Immanuel Quickley, who signed a whopping five-year, $162.5 million deal with Toronto, he ranks No. 23 out of No. 26. I guess that is just another reason why it would feel like a major win for the Bulls to ink him to a deal closer to the $20.0 million range.
