The opening FedExCup play-off event of the 2025 PGA Tour season is coming up this week with a star-studded field involved.

The FedExCup comes with a huge prize pot of $100million with this week’s St. Jude Championship having a $20m purse and the winner taking home a cool $3.6m.

Cameron Young finally claimed his breakthrough win on the PGA Tour at the Wyndham Championship last Sunday.

That event saw the field for the play-offs confirmed with Germany’s Matti Schmid claiming the final place in the 70-man field at TPC Southwind this week.

Davis Thompson was the unlucky 71st man while the likes of Gary Woodland, Nicolai Hojgaard and Byeong Hun An also only just missed out.

Now, the season-ending FedExCup play-offs can begin with Scottie Scheffler the firm favourite to cap off another brilliant year in style.

St. Jude Championship: Field and tee times

The St. Jude has a limited field of 70 players – the top 70 in the season-long FedexCup standings.

Open champion Scottie Scheffler heads up the list on 4,806 points.

Masters winner Rory McIlroy is second on 3,444 but has elected to miss the tournament this week.

Sepp Straka, Russell Henley and Justin Thomas make up the top five.

McIlroy’s decision not to play means there will be only 69 players in Memphis.

The field has been paired based on their FedexCup standings meaning Scheffler will play the opening two days alongside Straka.

St. Jude Championship: What has been said?

McIlroy’s decision to skip the St. Jude has ruffled a few feathers in the golfing world this week.

But former major winner Rich Beem believes the Northern Irishman is right to miss it and it could set him up to claim a record-extending fourth time FedExCup.

“It’s not surprising,” Beem said. “Memphis is typically very hot. It gets into the 90s, and you’re drinking like 20 bottles of water – it can be that stifling.

“Memphis can really sap your energy, just because of how hot and stifling it is. You would be playing four rounds there, then you’ve got to go to a long course (Caves Valley), then you have the same thing in Atlanta with the heat.

“I think if you want to be front and centre, and McIlroy wants to win the FedExCup for a fourth time, he has got to have all of his energy.

“The last three weeks can really, really take it out of you from a weather standpoint.

“Rory taking this week off to save himself for the last two is a good call.”
