(KRON) -- A mother was killed and her two young boys were critically injured after the car they were traveling in was broadsided by an SUV that blew through a red light in San Mateo Thursday evening, according to police.

Officers with the San Mateo Police Department and California Highway Patrol responded to the crash at 6:17 p.m. in the area of Alameda de las Pulgas at Highway 92. Authorities found two vehicles, a Toyota Prius and a Ford SUV, involved in the collision.

The driver of the Prius was identified by the county coroner as 30-year-old Yina Marcela Ramos Bello of South San Francisco. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Her two boys, ages 5 and 7, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and were rushed to a local hospital for their injuries. They were last listed in critical but stable condition, police said in an update on Friday.

The driver of the Ford was hospitalized for minor injuries. Authorities identified the Ford’s driver as male, but said they are withholding his name at this time. He was the sole occupant of the Ford.

Police determined in a preliminary investigation that the driver of the Ford was exiting eastbound Highway 92 at Alameda de las Pulgas and failed to stop for the red light. According to SMPD, the Ford broadsided the Prius, which was traveling northbound on Alameda de las Pulgas with a green light.

“Police are currently working to determine why the driver of the Ford failed to stop for the red light, but we can confirm he was not driving impaired,” SMPD said.

Both directions of Alameda de las Pulgas, plus the eastbound ramps to and from Highway 92, were reopened after being shut down for approximately four hours Thursday evening during the crash investigation.
