HGTV star Erin Napier has shared sad family news with her fans.
In a November 4 Instagram upload, Erin, who co-stars with her husband Ben Napier on their series Home Town, shared that her aunt Marilyn, nicknamed Mae Mae, has died. featured several pictures of Erin’s late aunt.
In the caption of the post, Erin noted that her aunt used to work at her and her husband’s store, Laurel Mercantile Co., located in their hometown of Laurel, Mississippi.
“My Aunt Mae Mae passed away today. If any of you met her when she worked as a greeter at our stores, you did not forget her. Her gift was loving people. Loving meeting them, talking to them. She worked in retail her entire life and could teach a master class in service,” wrote Erin.
Erin also shared that her aunt would look after her during her childhood.
“But when I was very young and my mama was a part-time realtor she kept me on the days mama had to work. She walked me through the trails in the woods on the hill where 4 generations of my family have lived,” continued the mother of two. “We collected leaves, and glued them into scrapbooks. She showed me the John Wayne movies I needed to know. She taught me the presidents, and we drew them for my scrapbook too. She sang Elvis to me, and told me about Jesus.”
In addition, Erin credited her with encouraging her to be an artist.
“She saw my creative gifts and knew exactly how to nurture them, helping raise up a professional artist without even realizing it,” wrote the HGTV personality.
She also noted that she named her younger daughter, Mae, 5, after her aunt.
“She was so very special, when my last baby girl was on the way I knew what we would name her. Mae,” read a portion of the caption.
Several commenters responded to Erin’s post by writing messages of condolences. Quite a few fans also shared their personal memories of Erin’s aunt while she was working at the Laurel Mercantile Co.
