ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Two women’s hockey stars from the Rochester area were selected in the 2025 PWHL Draft, with Haley Winn going second overall to the Boston Fleet.
Winn, who played four outstanding years as a defenseman at Clarkson, has also shined on the international stage. She won gold in 2020 as a member of the United States U18 team and again with the national team in 2023 and 2025, all a part of the IIHF Women’s World Championship.
Later on with the 8th pick in the 2nd round, Toronto chose Kiara Zanon. The Fairport native was teammates with Winn in high school with Bishop Kearney Selects, before choosing to play at Ohio State. Zanon was also teammates with Winn on the 2020 U18 team, and scored the game-winning goal in overtime in the championship game.
Both players now look to start their pro careers in the PWHL.
