CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Canandaigua Police Department arrested 40-year-old Houston Fountaine on May 31, charging him with falsely reporting an incident.
On May 30 at about 11 p.m., police responded to North Main Street at West Gibson Street after reports of a suspicious man walking in the roadway with a briefcase, claiming he had a bomb.
Officers apprehended Fountaine and located the briefcase near a church. With help from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, a perimeter was established to secure the area. The Monroe County Bomb Squad was called to the scene.
The briefcase was deemed safe, and the scene was released. Fountaine was taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.
During the investigation, residents were asked to shelter in their homes while traffic was limited for about two hours.
