"It is a show I have wanted to do for a long time but every other year I have been competing in the autumn and so couldn’t ever say yes," she said.

Sarah Storey is Britain’s most successful Paralympian, with 30 Paralympic medals, including 19 golds. She began her Paralympic career as a swimmer at Barcelona 1992, aged just 14, before later switching to cycling, where she became a dominant force on both road and track.
"It’s an incredible honour to have such a title," she previously told enable of being Britain’s most successful female Paralympian. "I never really targeted it as a goal, and when the media were talking about it prior to my first race in Rio I was trying not to think about it."
"The feeling of winning is like no other."
"It helped shape my identity and my career,” she said. “Sometimes it would have been nice to fit in but my whole goal was to compete at elite level. It wasn’t great at the time but I found ways to deal with it.
"Absolutely gutted to have my Dancing on Ice training interrupted in this way - just as my first routine... was really coming together!" she wrote on Instagram.

For Storey, Strictly has been a show she has always wanted to do, but she has often been competing in the autumn and so could never say yes. But as she has stepped down from competition, now felt like "the perfect time".
She added: "I am looking forward to working with the professionals and getting to know a whole new world that these incredible people have excelled in.
"It’s completely out of my comfort zone to be on national tv doing a competition I know nothing about! But that’s one of the reasons I am so excited too!"
