If you were there in 2006, you’ll remember when Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” was released and how it truly went, well, crazy. The combined duo of Danger Mouse’s spare electro beats, soulful strings, and CeeLo Green’s powerful vocal delivery made for a unique sound that was touching yet still ready for the dancefloor. It was the kind of song that felt like it came from nowhere and suddenly was everywhere – and nearly two decades later, it still sounds like nothing else.
Now, the duo that gave us one of the defining songs of the 2000s is finally coming back to the stage.
CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse have announced the “To Whom It Still Concerns Tour,” a nine-date North American run kicking off November 5 in San Francisco and wrapping November 28 in Chicago. The tour also includes stops in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Detroit, Boston, Silver Spring, Toronto, and New York. The Atlanta homecoming show on November 10 feels particularly poetic given that the city also lends its name to the duo’s newly released third album.
Atlanta, released this past March, marked Gnarls Barkley’s first music together since 2008’s The Odd Couple – an 18-year silence broken first by the single “Pictures” and now by a full record that Green has described as their “third and final album.” The tour, then, feels like both a celebration and a possible farewell.
