OAKLAND — A man died last year before a murder case against him could be resolved, court records show.
Last year, prosecutors formally dismissed the murder case against Hayward resident Gary Garcia, citing his death. Garcia had been accused of fatally stabbing 56-year-old Analee Mariano Garcia on March 21, 2024 inside their apartment in the 25000 block of Cypress Avenue.
Gary Garcia fled the home but surrendered to police a short while later. In June 2024, a judge released him to a hospital, citing his ailing health. Three months later, prosecutors came to court, declared he had died, and threw out the case.
Both of Garcia’s legs had been amputated, and his death appears to be due to natural causes, authorities said.
At the time of Garcia’s arrest, he told police he had defended himself during a fight with his wife, court records show.
