After a three-year battle with aggressive cancer, British blogger Charlie Anderson-Read died on Saturday, October 10, informing her fans of the news with a heartbreaking final video, posted just five hours after her passing.
Anderson-Read built a social media following by documenting her journey after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer at age 38. It was later discovered she also had a bile duct cancer called Cholangiocarcinoma, and was given just six weeks to live, but she managed to survive another three years. She leaves behind her wife, Louise, and their four-year-old daughter.
A video posted to Instagram began with a note from her family that said, “At 7:30 this morning, Charlie passed. She is now at peace. A few weeks ago, Charlie recorded a video to share with you all after her death.”
Anderson-Read then appeared and greeted her thousands of followers, breaking the sad news to them herself. She said, “If you are watching this video, I am, unfortunately, no longer here.”

“No, I haven’t kind of posted it from a different world,” she laughed. “Someone has kindly posted this on my behalf, so thank you.” She then expressed her gratitude for all the messages and “kind words” she’d received, saying that they “really helped me through what’s been a very difficult time.”
“I hope … this being such a terrible situation for me, I hope that some of these videos have helped out at least some people,” Anderson-Read said quietly. “And through this whole ordeal, I have only come across people being kind to me, generous to me, and it’s just shown me how much good there is in the world. It’s really kind of reminded me (of) that.”
While exhausting all treatment options, Anderson-Read raised money for Pancreatic Cancer UK and wrote a book to help those suffering from chronic conditions find the support they need. The book, How Not to F— Up PIP, was released in May.
Donations to an online fundraiser Anderson-Read set up to support her family began to flow in as followers learned of her death.
Many also left final messages in the comment section of her post, including a fellow cancer patient who wrote, “You are so gracious right to the very last word. I’m trying to follow your example. although as a stage 4 pancreatic cancer patient it’s hard to see where my journey may go you have given me courage and I will embrace every last minute of my journey. Go Gently On. Xxx”
