In a shocking move that sent ripples around the NBA, the Denver Nuggets dismissed both head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth on Tuesday.
It was one of the latest firings of a head coach we have ever seen in the NBA, but with the Nuggets posting a 4-8 record in their last 12 games while losing the last four in a row, Josh Kroenke and KSE clearly believed that a change was needed to the organization.
The Nuggets players had clearly grown both frustrated and complacent in recent months, and with nothing the Nuggets can do about the roster at this current moment, the organization firing the head coach isn’t a surprise in it of itself. The timing of the firing is quite shocking though. The Nuggets will turn to assistant David Adelman as their interim head coach, a voice the Nuggets are familiar with but perhaps new enough to deliver the right message to the team heading into the playoffs.
Of course, the firing of a general manager at the same time seems to be unprecedented. With Malone and Booth gone, this season just got even more interesting, and it’s fair to expect more organizational changes over the next few days, weeks, months, even years, as a result.
