Another injury blow for the Australia cricket team. Having already lost Cameron Green before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and uncertainty over Josh Hazlewood’s availability for the Sydney Test, Australia will be without their back-up wicketkeeper, Josh Inglis in the last match of the Australia vs India Test series.
Having come on as the substitute fielder on the second day of the Boxing Day Test, Inglis suffered a calf strain which. “A replacement in the squad for the fifth Test match in Sydney will be announced in due course. Inglis is anticipated to be available for Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka which follows the home Test Series. His availability for the Big Bash League will be determined by his return to play management plan,” said an Australian team spokesperson.
Yesterday (December 28), Mitchell Starc, was also seen grimacing and touching his back while bowling towards the back end of the day. There were concerns that Starc like Hazlewood might be doubtful for the Sydney Test as well. The left-arm pacer has already delivered 115.2 overs, which are the third most after Pat Cummins and Jasprit Bumrah.
However, the pacer has assured everyone he was fit before taking the field on the fourth day of the Boxing Day Test. “All good. Pace didn’t drop so I’m all good. I’m ready to go today,” Starc told SEN Cricket. But, this doesn’t mean that he’ll be fit for the Syndey Test.
Australia have replacements for Starc in Beau Webster, Sean Abbot and Jhye Richardson but if Hazlewood is fit, he might come in for him as well.
