(KRON) -- A small plane made an emergency landing Friday morning at an old, abandoned runway at the decommissioned Alameda Naval Air Station, KRON4.com has confirmed. According to the Alameda Fire Department, officials were notified of an aircraft experiencing mechanical issues at 10:26 a.m.

The aircraft was reportedly a Cessna type plane with two people on board.

The plane was able to land safely with no injuries to those on board or anyone on the ground. No hazmat issues were reported as a result of the landing, fire officials said.

Alameda NAS was decommissioned in 1997. Since then, it has been developed for mixed use by the city with residential and business properties. The old runways are frequently used recreationally by cyclists, joggers, and people walking their dogs.
