(QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The approval of sending a proposal for a new transit authority to state lawmakers that would bring a 1-cent tax in Mecklenburg County passed nearly unanimously Tuesday night. Many of the Charlotte City Council members noted current economic conditions, and that a new sales tax isn’t ideal, but the benefits outweighed the cost of inaction. If approved by the N.C. General Assembly, the tax would be up for a vote as a Mecklenburg County referendum in 2025.
