Sport by : (PRESSBEE) -

Carabao Cup, also known as the EFL Cup, has long been a prestigious tournament in English football, providing teams an opportunity to compete for silverware outside of the traditional league format. The upcoming third-round clash between Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers promises to be an engaging encounter that reflects both clubs' aspirations and challenges within their respective leagues. Historically, Arsenal has maintained a reputation as one of England's elite football clubs, while Bolton's journey through various divisions highlights the dynamic nature of English football.

Arsenal enters this match with a strong squad depth and a commitment to utilizing this competition as a platform for player development and tactical experimentation. Under the management of Mikel Arteta, the Gunners have shown resilience in recent seasons, often balancing domestic cup competitions with their Premier League ambitions. This match against Bolton provides an opportunity not only to secure advancement in the tournament but also to assess younger talents who may benefit from competitive exposure.

Park Chu-Young was the hero the last time the Gunners faced Bolton in the League Cup back in 2011.

The South Korea international curled home a lovely effort to settle the tie 2-1 after Fabrice Muamba and Andrei Arshavin had traded goals.

The 2011/12 season was also Bolton’s last in the Premier League – we beat them at home and drew away – and we’ve not faced them since.

Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Sp*rs.

The tie will be a repeat of a League Cup meeting between the sides in October, 2011 – the last season Wanderers also faced the Gunners as a top-flight outfit – when Arsenal won 2-1.

Mikel Arteta’s team joins the competition at this stage thanks to their qualification for the Champions League, which also means the tie against Wanderers is expected to be played in the week commencing 23rd September.

Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City will take on Championship Watford at Etihad Stadium, while Aston Villa and Tottenham have been handed trips to Wycombe and Coventry respectively.

Ties will take place in the weeks commencing 16 and 23 September, with Champions League and Europa League fixtures also scheduled during this period.
