Jordan Spieth found himself in hot water after being disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. The young golfer had been performing exceptionally well throughout the tournament, showcasing his talent and skill on the course. However, his dreams of victory were shattered when it was discovered that he had mistakenly recorded an incorrect score on one of the holes.
The rules of golf are clear - a player must sign an accurate scorecard at the end of their round. Any discrepancies or errors can result in disqualification, as was the case for Spieth. This unfortunate turn of events serves as a reminder to all golfers of the importance of attention to detail and accuracy in keeping track of their scores.
Spieth signed for a 3 at the par-3 fourth hole and a second-round 72, when in fact he made 4 on the hole and shot 73. His round had ended poorly moments earlier as he got caught up in the right rough and made a double-bogey 6 at the difficult finishing hole at Riviera.
After an opening round 5-under 66 on Thursday, Spieth shot 2-over 73 on Friday before the disqualification.
Following a double bogey on the 18th hole that dropped him back to 3-under for the tournament, Spieth quickly fist-bumped his playing partners and their caddies before sprinting up the steps to the Riviera clubhouse.
Spieth had not been feeling well.
In 2022, Spieth was disqualified from the JP McManus Pro-Am for scooping up his ball on the 14th green before holing out. Spieth thought he did not need to finish the hole because his score would not count for the team portion. However, the pro-am also featured an individual leaderboard for professionals, and Spieth was disqualified for not finishing out the hole.
At the uphill 18th, Spieth badly sliced his drive and had a second shot blocked out by trees. He punched 75 yards into a fairway bunker, and his third shot came up 46 feet short of the flagstick. Spieth pitched to five feet but missed the putt to make double bogey, shoot 73 and stand at three under—well inside the cutline of one over.
PGA Tour so it hurts me to not have a run at the weekend."
Spieth was off to a strong start this season. He finished solo third in The Sentry, tied for 39th at Pebble Beach and shot four rounds in the 60s for a T-6 in the WM Phoenix Open.
