Mike DeWine announced today that he is scheduling a special primary for the 6th Congressional District seat’s unexpired term on March 19 — the same day as the primary for the full term that starts January 2025. The seat will be vacated Jan. 21 by U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Canfield, who is resigning to become Youngstown State University president the next day. Jan. 19 is the filing deadline for candidates who want to run in the Republican or Democratic primaries for the unexpired term. Mahoning, the most-populous county in the 11-county district has to certify the names of candidates running in the primaries by Jan. 24. The special general election is scheduled for June 11.
