They entered the meet as the #3 seed coming out of the regular season.
Final Team Scores
NC State — 519.5 Tennessee — 469 Virginia — 449.5 Indiana — 282The women’s team was led by breaststroker Eneli Jefimova who won the 100 and 200 breaststroke events while also winning all four rounds of the 50 breast skins race. She also swam the breaststroke leg on the team’s super skins medley relay. Jefimova’s 200 breast win of a 2:05.70 marked a lifetime best for the sophomore.
The men’s team was led by Kaii Winkler as he swam to a new CSL record in the 100 IM, won the 100 fly, and won three of the four rounds of the 50 free skins race. He also helped the 200 free relay to a win and swam the backstroke leg on the team’s super skins medley relay.
NC State was the first team to arrive in Indianapolis as they flew in on Wednesday evening. They had a healthy roster, unlike other program absences such as Tennessee’s Julian Koch, Virginia’s Anna Moesch, and Indiana resting their U.S. SCM Worlds roster who only competed in Thursday night’s wild card.
Even with a healthy roster, the team rose to the occasion as the #3 seed coming into the meet. Winkler’s 50 freestyle skins races were key for the win as in Match #5, Winkler was eliminated in round 1 as he swam a 19.96 to finish 8th in the heat, eliminating him from moving onto round 2. Winkler moved on in all four rounds during the final, winning rounds 2, 3, and 4 while finishing 2nd behind teammate Jerry Fox in round 1. Jefimova also improved from Match #5 as she won the 200 breast and skins races there but went on to finish 2nd in the 100 breast. In the championship match, Jefimova was able to sweep the events. Freshman Jan Gajda, who arrived this fall from Poland, rose to the occasion in the men’s 100 breast to win in a lifetime best 52.02.
