Carolina Cooking, What Next? Prospects in Action, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

It’s been a rough week for Blackhawks fans, who have watched the team play three Stanley Cup contenders and lose all three games. It doesn’t get easier on Saturday night in Carolina, where the barbecue is exquisite but the defending champs aren’t going to have any sympathy for the struggling Hawks.

Mark Lazerus wrote a nice feature on Roman Kantserov, who’s been really good for the Blackhawks this season. I’m going to update a tracker with all of his goals this season, which we launched on Friday morning. Here’s a good quote from Kantserov in Laz’s piece about getting more comfortable in the NHL.

“I feel confident,” he said. “Coach (Jeff Blashill) gives me time, believes in me and my power and my conditioning, and it’s important for me to take this opportunity and use my chance. I’m playing with one of the best young players of the generation with Connor, so I need to play on the same level.

“Maybe now is not my best game, but every game I’m making plays, working through things, getting better with systems and patience. Every game gets better. I see I’m now the goal leader of rookies, but it’s only 15 games. The season is long and I need to stay healthy, stay focused and just keep going.”

Amid all the justifiable negativity surrounding the Blackhawks right now, there is one very big bright spot:Roman Kantserov is gonna be a star. On and off the ice. Mini-feature plus five game observations from Tampa: t.co/2vk5n1EMdG

    — Mark Lazerus (@MarkLazerus) November 6, 2026 On Thursday’s “Early Trading” segment on TSN, insider Chris Johnston talked about the Blackhawks and Sharks being nowhere close to where they expected to be at this point in the season. Here’s part of what he said (specifically about the Hawks):

“They’ve been on the trade market looking to add some help up front. They’ve been looking to see if they can get something to augment the forward group. But they’ve really dug themselves a hole.

“Let’s not forget that these teams have been finishing at the bottom of the standings, which is how they’ve accumulated the Celebrinis, the Bedards, and all the players that they have. But they don’t intend to be there right now.

“The Blackhawks thought they would be contending for a playoff spot this year and they’re right back in the basement where they’ve been for a long time.

“So, I don’t think either GM, be it Kyle Davidson in Chicago or Mike Grier in San Jose, can afford to be patient too much longer because we’re getting into the meat of the season now.”

Eddie Olczyk joined the guys on The Hockey Show on ESPN 1000 and offered some thoughts on about when we should really start to evaluate the Blackhawks this season. Here’s a clip:

    — ESPN Chicago (@ESPN1000) November 5, 2026 Finally, speaking of teams struggling right now, Eric Stephens at The Athletic wrote about the disconnected, underwhelming San Jose Sharks — and whether or not their head coach, Ryan Warsofsky, is on the hot seat.

After a 6-4-1 start, their best in five years, the Sharks have hit a skid. More than that, it’s the way they are playing that has brought forth questions about Warsofsky’s ability to snap them out of their funk and get his players to that next level this organization now expects. It’s one thing to shepherd a club as it matures during the rebuilding process. It is another to mold and drive this roster, easily the best he’s had in his three seasons, into a playoff team.

    Blackhawks Prospect Highlights & Schedule
