Emma Hussein from Stevenson Ranch, California, whom we ranked #10 on our Way Too Early list of top girls’ recruits from the class of 2028, has announced her verbal commitment to Stanford University, writing on social media:
“I am very excited to humbly announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Stanford University! First, a big thank you to my family for always being there to support me in everything I do. Thank you to Coach Kyle, Coach Mike, and the entire Canyons Aquatics coaching staff for helping me grow throughout my life. Another thanks to my teammates and friends for being there for me throughout the whole process. A huge thank you to Coach Chris, Coach Annie, and Coach Marcus for giving me the opportunity to join the cardinal family. GO CARD! ”
As of now, the Cardinal class of 2032 consists of #2 Reina Liu #3 Mikayla Tan, #6 Daniela Linares Danzos, and #10 Emma Hussein. Hussein’s addition gives Stanford an embarrassment of riches in the IM for 2028-29. Already, Hussein (1:57.23), Liu (1:55.86), and Tan (1:56.13) are under the 2027 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships qualification standard in the 200 IM, while Liu (4:09.88) and Hussein (4:12.37) are also under the standard in the 400 IM. That’s a heck of a training group right there.
Hussein is a junior at West Ranch High School. She won the 200 IM (1:57.23) and was runner-up in the 100 breast (1:01.21) at the 2026 CIF Southern Section Division I (largest schools) Championships in May, establishing PBs in both events. She did not compete at the California State Meet, but she did swim at the “hold-your-taper-post-CIF” meet and clocked lifetime bests in the 200 breast (2:11.26) and 100 fly (53.76).
Hussein swims year-round with Canyons Aquatic Club. This summer, she kicked off long course season at TYR Pro Swim Series in Sacramento, where she notched PBs in the 200 back (2:18.74), 50 breast (34.33), 200 IM (2:16.06), and 400 IM (4:48.88). At June Age Group Championships in her home pool, she lowered her lifetime bests in the 100 free (47.90), 200 free (2:07.32), 400 free (4:26.47), 200 breast (2:35.25), 50 fly (27.43), and 200 fly (2:23.16). She had year-over-year improvements of 3.5 seconds in the 200 free, 3.7 seconds in the 200 back, .8 in the 200 breast, .9 in the 200 fly, 1.1 in the 200 IM, and 1.1 in the 400 IM.
Similarly, in the 2025-26 short course season, she improved by 1.9 in the 100 breast, 6 in the 200 breast, 1.8 in the 100 fly, 2.3 in the 200 IM, and 1.5 in the 400 IM.
