Edwards put together one of the best performances of his career against the top-ranked Hurricanes, completing 28 of 34 passes for 341 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. It marked the first time Edwards had reached the 300-yard plateau as a Tar Heel. After missing on his first two passes, Edwards completed his next 12 and ended the game by completing eight passes in a row. Nine different Tar Heels caught a pass.
“It was great to see, halfway through the season, it all coming together for him,” UNC quarterbacks coach Matt Lombardi said of Edwards’ performance Monday. “Hitting a lot of different guys, getting guys involved in the passing game. A lot of credit to him to see the defense and to make the right decisions.”
“We obviously saw what we can do when we’re all on the same page, when we’re executing, when guys are making plays,” Edwards said. “I think there’s more levels that we can continue to tap into and build off for the last four games of the season.”
Edwards and the rest of the Tar Heels will be back in action Saturday when they visit UConn at 12 p.m.
