Yes, I’ve seen the viral tweet claiming NFL insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Chicago Bears are closing in on a Khalil Mack trade. However, that tweet is inaccurate and not what Rapoport said in the video report. And because I value our reader-writer relationship, I feel obligated to give you the truth.
Here is the clip from Rap Sheet this morning:

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 1, 2026And this is his full quote:
“The Bears may not actually be done. I’m told they’re still calling around. Still looking on the edges of their defense. Wouldn’t be surprised if a Khalil Mack trade was in the offing here. A possible reunion for Mack and the Bears.”
The tweet making the rounds overstates (if you want to give it grace) or blatantly misrepresents (if you don’t) what Rapoport is reporting, and is framed to generate reshares for clout. This isn’t to say that a possible reunion won’t happen. Rapoport seems to believe it could. And it sounds like the Bears are pursuing it. But to frame something as imminent when it isn’t just isn’t cool.
Don’t get it twisted. You can fan how you want and use the internet how you please. But misleading people is wrong. I won’t stand by idly and watch it happen without giving our readers full context. But I digress. There is still some unpacking to do on this one.

It is fascinating to watch two teams use public negotiations as an attempt to build leverage in trade talks. In one corner, the Chargers are playing hardball, saying that Khalil Mack isn’t available in trade talks despite being 0-6 and having less than a 1 percent chance of making the postseason. Meanwhile, in the other corner, the Bears are pressuring the Chargers with a public blitz signaling that they are continuing to make calls despite Los Angeles’ public stance.
It’s almost as if the multiple reports from NFL insiders saying that the Bears were expected to be among the most aggressive teams ahead of the 2026 NFL Trade Deadline had some merit.
Is this a situation where push comes to shove and the two sides meet in the middle on a deal? Or is it one that ends with stubborn minds prevailing? I don’t know how it’ll end, but Rapoport seems to believe there is a realistic chance that Khalil Mack returns to Chicago. No one does drama like the NFL. That much I know.
That said, I hope the Bears don’t have a one-track mind when it comes to upgrading their edge rusher spot. Don’t get me wrong. Khalil Mack is the perfect fit. Adding a veteran player who is hungry for a ring and is still playing at a high level is exactly what this defense needs. Plus, Mack being on an expiring deal means that a trade wouldn’t tie the team’s hands financially for the long haul. But if the attempt to land Mack in a trade falls flat, I hope the front office has contingency plans ready.
