Hudson Williams is taking on his next big role(s) after Heated Rivalry, with Kat Sandler (creator of his new show, YAGA) singing his praises.
Also starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid and Clark Backo, YAGA tells the story of Baba Yaga in a beautifully feminist way, with the mysterious disappearance of Henry Park (Williams) at the forefront of the story.
As well as Henry, Williams takes on a second role, which has been added for the show – Logan Casey, Henry's strange lookalike roommate.
Speaking exclusively to Radio Times, Sandler, who first wrote YAGA as a play before bringing it to screens, said of the actor: "He really created these characters."
She added: "Henry is very different in the play, and there's only him, but we had already created this additional character in the play. Three actors portray all the parts. There's one male actor, and he plays Henry and Rapp [played in the series by Reid], and so it was nice to have a little nod to that in Hudson's portrayal of two characters.
"I think Hudson was just really excited to get to dig into playing two distinct characters, and he brought his beautiful cinephile hardworking actor self to it.
"From minute one, he was really nerdy about the character and really trying to build something that would not just [benefit] his character, but like help push the whole show towards being more unexpected and bolder and sexier."
Fans have already gone a tad feral over the racy scenes in the show, which were teased in some early trailers, with Moss revealing to Radio Times that the show changed her mind on intimacy coordinators.
"The show is sexy and it's unapologetic and it's not for everybody, but it takes a few big swings," Sandler explained.
View Green Video on the source websiteOne of the key elements in the show is the dynamic between Katherine (a professor, played by Moss) and student Henry. When tackling that relationship, Sandler explained that she wanted the show to be very self-aware.
"You don't think twice when you see an age gap of 30 years on screen when it's flipped," she pointed out.
"I think it's fun and self-aware of the show to be able to call that out. I think Rapp says in one of the first episodes, 'Because you're a woman, it's not as creepy – but he is so much younger than you.'
"I think it's nice to be able to cheekily say the quiet part out loud. It means that sometimes you get lines that feel on the nose, but I'm kind of okay with it. It's a wild ride, and it's meant to be cheeky."
Yaga releases on Sky and NOW on 31 October.
