The touching film follows the actor, 50, and his longtime friend, disability rights advocate Emma Fogarty, while they train for and complete the Dublin Marathon.

The syndrome “occurs in one in 15,000 live births or 500,000 people worldwide and is caused by a loss of function of the UBE3A gene in the 15th chromosome derived from the mother,” according to the Angelman Syndrome Foundation.
“The only time I’m reminded that there is something different about him – that he has some deviation of what is perceived to be normal – is when I see him with other 4-year-olds. Then I go, ‘Oh yeah,’ and it comes back to me,” Farrell told the Irish Independent at the time, per PEOPLE. “But from day one I felt that he’s the way he’s meant to be.”
He also mentioned James in 2008 while talking to Irish talk show host Ryan Tubridy. “He’s nothing but a gift. He’s, as far as I’m concerned, exactly the way he should be,” he said.
Farrell started the Colin Farrell Foundation in honor of James in 2024. The nonprofit provides support for adult children who have intellectual disabilities through advocacy, education and innovative programs.“Once your child turns 21, they’re kind of on their own,” Farrell, who is also a father to 17-year-old son Henry, told PEOPLE shortly after starting the foundation. “All the safeguards that are put in place, special ed classes, that all goes away, so you’re left with a young adult who should be an integrated part of our modern society and more often than not is left behind.”
“I want the world to be kind to James,” Farrell added. “I want the world to treat him with kindness and respect.”
