ROCHESTER, N.Y. — RocMaidan is preparing to ship an aid package to Ukraine on Saturday, marking the local humanitarian group’s 33rd shipment since the start of Russia’s invasion.
Since 2022, the volunteer group has sent medical supplies and essentials to help communities in Ukraine. The latest shipment comes as winter approaches and months away from the war’s five-year mark. Volunteers say they feel like there has been no real progress in ending the war, and they’re taking it one day at a time while continuing their efforts.
“Winter is coming, and that’s another winter of cold and going into bomb shelters nightly and not having enough medicine to survive,” said RocMaidan Board Member Elena Dilai. “We can’t send too much, but we can send over-the-counter medicine, ibuprofen and flu, cold medicine, aspirin, etc. That actually helps people there that are so-so basic here but are in high demand in Ukraine.”
The group said it costs $10,000 to ship the aid package and it will take about a month and a half to reach Ukraine. RocMaidan also recently raised enough money to buy two ambulances.
