Amerks campaign against impaired driving

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The New York State DMV, local leaders, and the Rochester Americans are partnering on a campaign to stop impaired driving.

Monroe County has one of the highest rates of substance-related crashes in the state, according to the DMV, with most crashes involving male drivers ages 20 to 49. During games at Blue Cross Arena, safety messages will be displayed throughout the venue, reminding fans about the dangers of impaired driving and speeding. The messages will also urge them to drive safely or find alternative ways to get home.

“I think it’s just important to remind people that they play an important role in the decisions that they make that can impact other people’s lives,” said Chad Buck, vice president of business operations for the Rochester Americans. “And the least we can do as a community partner is help spread that message and remind folks, come out, have a great time, but there’s a lot of different ways and avenues to get home safely and save a life.”

The campaign’s messaging will also be included in broadcasts of the games. You can see the Amerks schedule here.
