After a 21-10 loss to Illinois in Champaign on Saturday, Oregon has fired offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer.
Mehringer, who became the full-time offensive coordinator prior to the start of the 2026 season, was relieved of his duties Sunday as Oregon grapples with a season that’s quickly gone south, with the Ducks carrying a 4-3 record after starting the season ranked as the No. 2 team in the country.
“Drew has been a valued member of this staff since 2022, and I am appreciative of everything he’s done for Oregon,” head coach Dan Lanning said in a statement. “He played a tremendous role in what this program has accomplished over the last several seasons. This was a decision I felt was in the best interest of our football program, as I believe a new direction is necessary to move our offense forward. I thank Drew for his efforts and wish him all the best.”
Mehringer had previously served as the co-offensive coordinator with New Mexico and with Florida Atlantic, and had been Oregon’s co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach between 2022 and 2025.
Oregon’s offense has struggled ever since quarterback Dante Moore was injured during the team’s 41-27 win over USC on September 26. In the games since, the Ducks have managed just 14 points per game and Oregon has lost games to UCLA and to Illinois.
Things came to a head in that loss to the Illini on Saturday. Though Oregon managed 426 yards of offense, they were also just 4-of-15 on third down and failed to score a point in the second half of the game.
The road ahead for the Ducks is going to be a challenge, as they’ll welcome No. 20 Northwestern (and former head coach Chip Kelly) to Autzen Stadium on Halloween and then they’ll travel to No. 2 Ohio State for a showdown on November 7.
