ROCHESTER, N.Y. — This week’s Rochester in Focus begins by featuring a conversation with the leaders from the Anti-Poverty Initiative and the Health Education Project. Then, it’s a talk with the CEO of Compeer Rochester about loneliness. After that, we talk with the CEO of Delphi Rise, including the organization’s trainer and project manager. The last interview is with a fine arts photographer.

Ronieka Burns Sharp with the Health Education Project and Aqua Porter, executive director of the Rochester-Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative (RMAPI), discussed the importance of voting this year. They shared last-minute information about free rides available during early voting and on Election Day, and said a website would provide more details. They want to stress how much your one vote counts.

Sara Passamonte, president and CEO of Compeer Rochester, joined the show to address the epidemic of loneliness. She talked about campaigns to end loneliness, including the Walk to End Loneliness on Sunday, Nov. 1, and encouraged people to use their average four hours of scrolling time to become a mentor.

Another segment highlighted Youth Mental Health First Aid, a program from Delphi Rise, led by President and CEO Jennifer Cathy. The program trains people to respond to non-white young people in a mental health crisis or when talking about mental health. Trainers said culture matters in these situations. The interview also features James Schuler, director of the Youth Advocate Program, along with Andrea McLeod, project manager and trainer at Delphi Rise. They explain their perspective on helping those in need, especially with culturally competent help.

The show ended with an interview with fine arts photographer Adam Eaton. News10NBC visited his studio at the Anderson Arts Building at Village Gate in the spring to talk about his work and photography. Eaton explains how beauty is portrayed in his book and even in everyday life. He also talks about the importance to unify as a community.
