Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has begun construction of the second phase of a roads and infrastructure project in Izghawa and Al Thumaid, with an estimated investment of US $114.8mn.
The project will deliver road networks and essential infrastructure for approximately 771 plots, serving residential developments alongside schools, commercial centres, mosques and other public facilities.
The second phase includes the construction of approximately 23km of roads, 30 km of pedestrian and cycling paths, 589 street lighting poles and 2,730 parking spaces. The works will also cover 23km of rainwater drainage networks, 15km of drainage networks and 6km of treated sewage effluent networks to support the irrigation of landscaped areas.
Around 171,650sqm of green space will be developed as part of the project, integrating landscaping with the wider infrastructure network.
Covering approximately 600,000sqm the project area is bounded by Al Dawakhil Street to the east, National Day Ceremonial Road to the north and Al Khor Road to the south.
Ashghal said construction will be undertaken sequentially across 3 geographical zones to minimise disruption to residents and road users while maintaining traffic flow throughout the works.
The project forms part of Qatar’s ongoing infrastructure development, with the new road networks, drainage systems and pedestrian facilities intended to support local communities and accommodate the area’s growing urban needs.
