At the conclusion of the program, participants are tested for knowledge and understanding of fundamental and advanced concepts of justice from both a philosophical and practical application standpoint. Lawson completed the program and was awarded the Certificate of Justice on October 9th.
“I am a believer that you should never stop improving,” said Lawson. “The more we do to make the services we provide better, the greater the benefit to the people we serve.”
Lawson supervises a staff of seventeen prosecutors that are assigned to various courts throughout the judicial district. Their work ranges from juvenile offenses to child support collection to misdemeanor offenses to even the most serious felony offenses in the district.
“We can have as many as eleven judges on the bench at the same time, if you count juvenile referees and child support collection cases along with all of the criminal cases in the several counties,” said Lawson. “As no one can be everywhere at once, an important part of my job is to train the prosecutors who work for my office. To be most effective, I need to make sure we all understand not only what we are doing, but why we are doing those things. That is why it is important for me to define and share the underlying reasons for the justice we are trying to achieve and to create that vision for my office. That is what this program is about for me.”
