Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said his team made “mental mistakes” in the 6-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Passing was off, the power play struggled and the penalty kill took a hit. Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals and Brock Nelson added another, but the Avs could not pull it in to get two points against the Leafs.

Mackenzie Blackwood allowed five goals on 22 shots. A few may have been questionable, but the team gave the Maple Leafs plenty of chances to score.
“I can’t blame him for any of the goals, none. But if you’re giving up four shots in a period and three goals, you’d like him to make a save in some of those. I’m sure he feels the same way,” Bednar said. “But again, it’s not like the chances that we gave up — we’re not giving up anything. Then it’s a grade A, and we’re not giving up anything and it’s a great day. Grade A‘s are tough to stop, especially when they got some shooters over there. But in tonight’s game, we needed a save at a key time.”
